Anil Kapoor, who's turned producer, talks about his movie and actress daughter Sonam who's now romancing Salman Khan.

From Padmini Kolhapure to Sameera Reddy, Anil Kapoor has been romancing heroines onscreen for more than two decades. And now that the talented actor's daughter Sonam is all set to romance heroes onscreen, Anil is a mixture of awkwardness and pride.

"She's opposite Ranbir (Kapoor) in the film, but she's opposite Salman Khan too. And Salman is somebody who's played my brother or friend! So, sometimes when he talks to me or I talk to him about Sonam, I don't know how to express myself," Anil remarked with a shy smile. The father in him is clearly overwhelmed by his emotions . Wonder whether he will be able to watch his daughter's debut film?

"I've seen portions of Saawariya," he said. "And Sonam has been completely groomed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. What Sunita and I have tried to give her is our values. And I've tried to give her whatever experience I have in the industry . But at the end of the day, it's the director and producer of the film you have to look upto and give your best to," he said.

Talking about producers , Anil's become one himself with Gandhi My Father. Directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, the film has Akshaye Khanna portraying Mahatma Gandhi's son Harilal Gandhi. Anil hasn't produced this film because the youth of India are suddenly finding Gandhi 'cool' after Lagey Raho Munnabhai. "I believe Feroz is the first one to dabble with the subject. When I was preparing for the film, I met Raju Hirani and at that time, even Munnabhai MBBS had not released. Raju told me he didn't know what film he's doing next," said Anil. But he does admit that the acceptance of his subject has been easier after Lagey Raho... and Gandhi became popular with the youth. "The father-son relationship is something people will be able to relate to more now. The timing of the film is perfect ."

He believes that the past year-and-a-half have been eventful for him. "My children are growing up and choosing their respective careers. My wife feels that she can't handle the home alone now and needs me constantly. That takes a lot of my time. And now, suddenly, I'm being offered such good roles, ones that I can't say no to," he said. So he's doing four films instead of the usual one or two that he does every year. "There's Welcome, Race, Subhash Ghai's Black and White and Yash Chopra's Tashan. Then I've just finished recording two songs for my second production Shortcut. There's been no time to breathe," he explained with a smile.

For an actor who's enthralled the audience for more than 25 years, Anil feels like he's just beginning. "I never look back. When you look at people like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand or Amitabh Bachchan, note their achievements and see the way they are, I feel I am nothing in comparison to them. I still have a long journey ahead of me. Maybe a few years down the line, I might look back. But right now, I feel I've just begun," he signed off.
